NY See

March 25th, 2008 .

I flew to New York last Thursday to spend the weekend with friends and to see Nathan and Chris’ show. Right off the bat, the weekend got off to an amazing start when Katy Hawley (of “Katy Hawley’s Birthday”) took me for mani/pedis. Why, you ask? Why not.

We made the trip downtown to pick up waaaay too many of the incredibly delicious “Magnolia Bakery” cupcakes. I can still feel the buttercream and lard pulsing through my system, but assure you it was worth it.

Staff
Peace rally that stretched for blocks and blocks. Do you see that crazy cut out that the second person from the left is holding? Yeah. Whoa.

I think that I personally may be in possession of at least 10 other years worth of pictures of Katy and Nathan having conversations just like this.

Milbert.

When you haven’t seen your pal in almost 2 years, the best thing to do is try to force your nuts on them.

Staff

Staff
I love this picture. Nathan is telling Jamie some fantastic story and Miller is playing the devil on her shoulder. Typical.

Staff
If you leave your camera at the bar, boob pictures are a free for all. If you take boob pictures with my camera, I will put them on my blog.

Gilbert and Milbert reunited at last.

Some one’s tonsils- my bets are on Nathan. I did witness him getting scolded earlier in the evening for biting some one’s camera.

Staff

Staff
Umm…we’re not leaving.

This whole night took place after we saw “Fugitive Songs.” It was such a fantastic night all together. Of course, the show was wonderful, but I am also totally biased. Seeing someone you care about do something that they love…well, there is nothing like that. And, yeah, the show really was good.

Jamie, Katy and I had a girlie Easter Sunday in Kates apartment. The Easter bunny did come, but he only left weird foreign candy and candles. I guess that was so you could torch the sweets if you didn’t like them.

Staff
Do you see what a healthy Easter breakfast we had? Mmm…diet pepsi for breakfast is FINE!

Staff
Whoever said that we are not traditional girls? Yeah. Proof.

The other important thing to do on Easter, to be traditional, is to have a beer sampling.

Staff

Staff
Ahh, yes. The heartland, indeed…..

…but first, back here…

Trust

March 20th, 2008 .

Sometimes you just know, sometimes there are signs, sometimes there is just a random post on a site that you visit everyday and you feel as if whatever powers that be, they are trying to tell you something.

It has been impossible for me to find the words. I guess this is a start.

The first Spring Break ‘08

March 18th, 2008 .

It is spring break in Ft. Lauderdale. It lasts for about 3 weeks down here. I am not sure if you know what that means, but here are some little hints to help: alcohol, frat boys, tan girls, alcohol, fake boobs, rented convertibles, puke on the sidewalk because of alcohol (yep, saw some yesterday), drunken fights over dumb chicks, hideous t-shirts that say “Spring Break ‘08″ (that people only buy because they are drunk) and the very worst thing is that all the people down here losing more brain cells than they can probably afford to lose…yep, once again, because of alcohol.

So, the older Spangler girls and Mats the American Swede came down for their Spring Break. We showed the spring break party animals how it is really done. We hung out in a cool apartment, talked for hours, played some guitar, worked our tails off on these scripts that have to be finished by tomorrow (AHHHHHHH!) and ate whatever we felt like. We did go to the beach, but we did not get tan and we did not puke.

Sometimes, when a friend goes into the store, you ask them to bring you back a surprise. If you ask Orlando for a surprise, this is what he will bring you:

A string of thoughts and events

March 15th, 2008 .

I am going to make this a marathon post because it has been a while and I feel the need…

This week, I arrived back in the States after being gone for quite some time. It is strange to have the bit of culture shock along with the “goodbye winter” “hello summer” feeling all the same time. In one day, I was in 4 different countries where the weather started off as cold, snowing, sleeting and upon arrival in Florida was hot, humid and sticky. It did not help that I was wearing tights and knee high furry boots. All of the leathery, super tucked humans of South Florida gave me some sassy glances from head to toe.

I spent a couple of hours in Zurich, Switzerland and in my sleepy haze, sang some songs from the Sound of Music to entertain myself while waiting to take off again. It just seemed appropriate.

Last week, it was my friend Staffan’s birthday…well, not really, but it was time to celebrate his birthday. So we had a little surprise party for him. I thought that it was time to introduce my Swedish friends to some American delicacies, so I made them the following: Phatty-boom-blatty dip, hot salsa and deviled eggs. Great menu, huh?

Look, they loved the dip.

If the dip is good and the eggs are good, this is the only thing that makes sense:

In case Staffan forgot.

I bought this beer just because it had this rodent on it. Jam, it was a can made for you.

While in Stockholm, a friend invited us to the theatre where he works. It is a dinner theatre type show in a bar setting. The characters are the waiters and the show happens for a while and then they all take a break to serve the audience. We stayed there all night and then closed the place down with the cast after the show. There was something weird and surreal about the place and the people. They were all very cool, but I got the feeling that if I went back there next day that the place may be abandoned and look as if it hadn’t seen life in 50 years. You know?

Peanut butter jelly time

March 4th, 2008 .

In the fall, some of our Russian and Swedish students joined us in the U.S. for tour of our Russian show. We had a big sha-bang on the beach one day with about 50 people and one of the parents brought peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to share….to be all American. Of course some of the students had never tried them before. Maybe I should force them? Haha…look:

Some things never change

March 2nd, 2008 .

I was going through my iPhoto trying to clear some space off of my over worked computer and I came across videos that we made while living in dorm rooms in Florida last summer. This video will ensure anyone who ever thought otherwise: No, we will not grow up. Ever.

That black thing on the 2nd dish? It is the dreaded Swedish, salty black licorice…which is also used to torture prisoners of war.
